Our Mission and Values

Birds N’ Things has a simple mission statement:

...to ensure that exotic pet birds are cared for in the highest possible manner by those who adopt these intelligent and sensitive creatures.  

We would rather lose the sale of our birds than to place them into a questionable home, and we refuse to “market” our parrots without us knowing you, and you knowing your intended adopted bird.   We are firmly committed to educating our clients on the care and feeding of the bird and maintaining the well-being and happiness of your companion for many years to come.  For these reasons, we must refuse to “sell” a companion parrot over the Internet.  We must first get to know you, and you us.  Take our test by going to “Are you a Bird Person” on out website.  You will find a rich source of information about the characteristics of the parrots we offer and how they may – or may not – be suitable for your personality, lifestyle and living environment.  

Companion parrots are intelligent and are capable of deep love and bonding to their human “family.” This requires a special type of pet custodian – one that is informed, intelligent and committed to caring for and loving his or her bird over its entire lifetime – which can range from 15 to 75 years or more!  Obviously, this is not a commitment to enter into spontaneously or in the absence of professional counseling.   To purchase a bird, place him or her in a cage and simply feed the parrot is not enough!  With the exception of hiring a babysitter, companion parrots require the commitment and love you would give any three-year-old child.   Scientific research conclusively demonstrates that parrots have the intelligence – and emotional needs -- of a human toddler.  Are you a “bird person?”  We are committed to help you answer that all-important question!

Our mission statement is the underlying principle Birds N’ Things uses to make all business decisions -- such as selecting only those breeders that meet the highest Avian ethical standards.  We exhaustively research and procure only healthy, varied foods and treats, and choose only those toys that are safe and intellectually stimulating.   Mass purchasing power and distributor discounts are not part of our business equation.  Our core philosophy: providing companion parrots and their human family with nothing less than the best products and time-tested professional advice.
